Spring is in the air, and while I love to be outdoors all year long, there’s something about spring renewals that makes me want to get out there and feel the sun on my skin every day. Spring is a rejuvenating time for nature, and we can make it a rejuvenating time in our own lives too. For many, that means kicking off the season with some much-needed spring cleaning. Don’t forget to target your sleep space for a deep clean as well. At least once a year, washing pillows, comforters, mattress pads, and other bedding is a great way to keep allergens at bay and keep your sleep space feeling clean and fresh. If you have somewhere safe and clean to dry bedding in the sunshine, you can store up some rays and fresh breezes to bring inside with you.
Bringing the outdoors in for fresher air and calming nights
When I wake up in the morning, I want to be greeted by things that make me feel good. Something that really energizes me is growing things. I love watching the spring gardens come back to life in my community. I just purchased a new indoor aero garden and I’ve already planted my first basil crop. I don’t have the aero garden in my bedroom because it fits perfectly somewhere else in my home, but it has reminded me how much a small indoor plant can help improve a room. There are so many different plants out there to fit your space, so whether your bedroom gets morning or afternoon light, whether it’s a sunny or a shady spot, or whether you want hands-off or hands-on plant responsibilities, there’s something out there for you – just do your research to find the best match.
One of the reasons I am excited to start my aero garden journey with basil is because I love how it smells. Fresh basil reminds me of traveling to new places and enjoying home cooked meals with my family. One thing that plants can do in our home is help freshen the air. Just like airing out your home and bedding each spring is important, airing out yourself is too! So, get out there and enjoy this spring weather, take some time to air out your sleep space and bedding this spring, and think about ways to bring fresh scents and live (or ornamental) plants into your home.
Sleep well with these spring sleep tips
Don’t forget to focus on getting your best night’s sleep, while enjoying more time outside this season. Here are a few tips on how to improve your sleep this spring:
· Spring sunshine is a reminder that for many of us, summer months can mean very warm temperatures. If you are a hot sleeper, keeping your sleep space dark, cool, and comfortable is essential to getting a good night's sleep. Adding a fan, opening windows when you can to capture cross breezes, and purchasing cooling fabrics can help.
· You can upgrade your sleep technology to include temperature regulating fabrics that help keep you cool all night long. The Sleepsmart 37.5® Technology Temperature Regulating Down Alternative Duvet Insert continuously adjusts to help maintain a climate of personal comfort at the ideal 37.5° Celsius, so you can wake up rested and refreshed.
· Exercising and getting outside every day, whether it’s a short walk around the block or a long bike ride with friends, can help you get to sleep faster and stay asleep longer. In fact, just 17 minutes a day outside can help improve your sleep, studies show.
· Surrounding yourself with things that make you happy is a great way to start the day off right. Select a few new spring colors to add to your sleep area, add a new plant to your bedroom, or frame a picture that brings back great memories to feature on your nightstand.
