Make The Most Memories This Memorial Day

Relax and unwind while reuniting with loved ones this Memorial Day Weekend

The kick-off to summer is in view! Time spent with friends and family, soaking up some sun and relaxing with a day off work is the perfect recipe for a great weekend to recharge. Memorial Day Weekend 2021 could be one where some loved ones are reuniting for the first time in possibly over a year, and it will be a memorable one!

I know I personally cannot wait to have some fun in the sun with my family and get excited for the beginning of the summer season. In preparation for the upcoming long weekend, here are some of my ideas on how to spend the holiday:

  1. Thank a veteran you know - Call a veteran you know and thank them for their service. A simple thank you will mean a lot to them, and a phone call is more personal than a text or email. Take 10 minutes out of your day to make someone else’s!

  2. Donate - One of the easiest ways to give back, is to donate time and volunteer at a veteran-focused organization. If you do not have the time to volunteer, make a monetary donation to an organization that supports and assists veterans. Even a small amount can make a large difference. Ready Set Ride, an equine therapy barn located in Plainfield, IL, has had the honor of veterans participating in their volunteer program. The barn was the first official partner of VetPark, a company that helps US Veterans heal. To learn more about Ready Set Ride, see my recent blog post.

  3. Try a craft - Host a patriotic craft session to help your kids get in touch with their creative side and educate them on the reason behind what Memorial Day is really all about. While it is nice to get a day off work and school, it is important to remember the reason for the holiday.

  4. Hug a loved one! Finally! We can hug our loved ones again! Use this holiday to show your appreciation to your friends and family while you have the chance. I know I will never take another hug for granted. In a year without enough human physical contact, I will be using this long weekend to show my love and appreciation for those who helped me get through the past year.

  5. Relax and recover after a long winter - After a long day of fun in the sun reuniting with friends and family to celebrate the end to a long winter, treat yourself to the best possible night’s sleep with the SleepSmart Basketweave Blanket from Pottery Barn. This blanket is one of my all-time favorites to add as an extra layer of comfort into your sleep environment. The Basketweave Blanket works instantly and continuously throughout the night to wick away moisture and keep your body’s microclimate balanced. I’ve woven the same technology that elite athletes use to keep cool, dry and comfortable longer, with breathable cotton to create the industry’s first technical woven blanket. The beautiful basketweave pattern provides an extra layer of interest on your bed until you’re ready to enjoy some amazing sleep!
