How To Turn Your Pillows Into Your Personal Throne

Use your pillows to treat yourself like the queen or king you are!

Want to sleep like royalty? It’s easy to feel like the ruler of your sleep domain with one of my favorite ways to get in the mood for a great night’s sleep - a pillow stacking technique I like to call the “Throne of Pillows”! To create this seat of power, you’ll need at least three pillows, but the more pillows you use, the more grand and welcoming your throne will look.

Generally, I like to start with a king size pillow as the base, then stack three to four medium to firm density, standard size pillows in a pyramid shape on top. Next, I will position a softer pillow in the front for light lumbar support, and add an extra pillow on the side for my dog, Stormy to lay her head. Then, ta-da! You have your personal “Throne of Pillows” and you can sit back, relax, and reflect on what you accomplished that day, along with your aspirations for tomorrow.

If you love collecting pillows, creating the “Throne of Pillows” is also a great way of viewing and appreciating the pillows you’ve added to your collection over the months, which is also a great stress buster and mood booster.

With an emphasis on health and wellness more than ever before, taking the time to prioritize sleep and appreciate all that we have will have the greatest impact on your overall well-being. Better sleep will not only lead to a better immune system and improved mental health, but also a boost in creativity and overall inspiration.

One person who has felt particularly creative and inspired by the value of sleep and rest, is Artist Cyril Lancelin. As an alternative to the “Throne of Pillows” as demonstrated by his work, Lancelin created a “Pyramid of Pillows” as a way to encourage people to stay home, enjoy the comfort of their own home, and ultimately slow the spread of COVID-19. The “Pyramid of Pillows” in this case represents a safe space and shelter. One person’s pillow, in this case, is another person’s art!

As told by Lancelin, "It is both a refuge, a house within the house, a cocoon where one will want to stay. The cushion is the symbol of the house as a cozy nest, a place of rest and above all of security." One’s sleep environment is the most sacred refuge in one’s home - especially in a time like now where not much else is certain other than the comfort and safety provided in one’s home. Stay home, stay safe, and stay comfy with as many pillows as possible! Surround yourself with your own “Throne of Pillows” or even “Pyramid of Pillows,” and in turn, boost morale in your household. If you have to stay home, you might as well build the most welcoming sleep environment as possible in order to keep calm and content!

If you are looking to build your own pyramid of pillows status symbol, try the Stay Fresh Pillow or the Sleep Smart Temperature Regulating Down-Alternative Pillow from Pottery Barn for all your pillow stacking needs! Both of these products use temperature regulating technology to keep your cool and fresh through the night. Fibers in the fill help sensitive sleepers fall asleep, and stay asleep longer and deeper for a refreshing night’s sleep. Not to mention, the contouring

support of the fill will allow you to stack as many pillows as you please, and never run low on comfortability!

Use your pillows and other bedding to treat yourself like the king or queen you are - each and every night!
