How science can help predict your personality traits based on your favorite sleep position to fall asleep in each night!
How do you fall asleep at night? As it turns out, research says the position you sleep in may mean more than you think!
In fact, Professor Chris Idzikowski, director of the Sleep Assessment and Advisory Service, completed lengthy research that describes how our subconscious posture and body language is linked to our personality. Most people consistently sleep in the same position every night. The studies showed only five percent of respondents said they sleep in a different position each night. Most of us know what position we prefer to be in to fall asleep the easiest, but what we don’t know, is what those positions say about our personalities!
How often we sleep, what makes us most comfortable, our dreams, and more all tell us more about ourselves and how our subconscious mind operates. This makes so much sense because sleep impacts everything we do on a daily basis. While the amount of sleep we get is usually what first comes to mind, the way we sleep affects how we feel as well.
Here is what researchers predict about what your favorite sleep position says about your personality:
The Fetal Position - According to studies, about 41 percent of people sleep in this position! If this is your go-to, you might be considered a teddy bear. Tough on the outside, but sensitive on the inside is often used to describe fetal position sleepers.
The Log - The log, though it sounds very funny, is when you fall asleep on your side with your arms by your side. 15 percent of people find themselves falling asleep in this position. If you find yourself sleeping like a log, you might be a social butterfly! These sleepers are friendly, carefree, and love to engage with all kinds of individuals. Be careful, log sleepers. You have been known to potentially be gullible since you are so trusting!
The Yearner - The yearner is when one sleeps on their side, but has their arms extended out in front of them. Yearners are often described as open-minded, yet cynical. If you are a yearner, you might be slow at making up your mind, but once you make a decision you stick to it!
The Soldier - Exactly how it sounds – laying flat on your back with your arms to your side! Soldier sleepers hold themselves to high moral standards. They can be quiet and reserved, and appreciate structure and seriousness.
The Starfish - The starfish is known as when sleepers lay on their back, with their arms and legs spread out. Starfish are often great friends who are always eager to listen or lend a helping hand. They are also often considered to have a very care-free nature.
Pillow Hugger - Pillow huggers are the snugglers and cuddlers of the group - no surprise there! If you love to fall asleep hugging a pillow, you take your relationships with friends and family very seriously, and you cherish these relationships above all else. Careful though, pillow huggers have been known to sometimes place the needs of others over themselves.
So, what kind of sleeper are you? Pay attention to how you fall asleep tonight, and be sure to check back in tomorrow! No matter how you like to fall asleep, the most important thing is that you are taking the time to prioritize your sleep, and doing what makes you happy.
