Some of the world’s most successful people owe their achievements to sleep…even Super Bowl star Tom Brady
As you watch Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers take on Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs this Super Bowl Sunday, it is important to remember these all-star athletes are not only the most successful because they life the most weights or run the fastest, but they also take excellent care of their mind and wellness.
Tom Brady has expressed his edge on the competition is owed at least somewhat to his healthy sleep habits, "Proper sleep has helped me get to where I am today as an athlete and it is something I continue to rely on every day," he said.
Some of the world’s other elite athletes including Lebron James and Usain Bolt have owed their success to getting a quality night’s rest, and always prioritizing their 8-10 hours per night – with naps! Sleep helps to refine our brain cells, and therefore helps us to master complicated motor skills. Never underestimate the power of a refreshed mind and positive attitude on your physical performance as well! The positive energy that comes with a great night’s sleep is almost as important to their success as the hours of training these athletes put in day in and day out.
In other words, sleep can be viewed as an “all-natural performance enhancing drug.” No illegal activities taking place here, just placing heavy emphasis on the rest and recovery process in order to reach the peak of your own physical performance capabilities. In a previous blog post, I chatted with Physical Performance Specialist Kurtis Rayfield who also informed us the ins and outs of sleep’s role in physical wellness. Check out some of his tips on creating healthy habits and placing value the sleep and recovery process.
